High School Coaches

Head Coach PJ Rovinelli

PJ Rovinelli Jr. - Varsity Head Coach

Coach PJ has coached over a decade in Arizona, including UofA, ASU and Grand Canyon University.

During his 6-year high school span, split between Desert Vista and Chaparral High School, Coach PJ has compiled a 77-33 (70%) record, with two semi-final and three state final appearances, winning one with Chaparral in 2011. Those teams have developed over 30 All-State player selections, 3 All-Americans and 3 Academic All-Americans.

A Massachusetts native, he was a high school All-American lacrosse goalie, state champion wrestler, and all-conference football player, captaining all three teams. In 2021, he was inducted into Framingham High School’s Hall-of-Fame.

Coach PJ continued both his lacrosse and wrestling careers at NCAA DIII Springfield College (MA), where he earned 2x Academic All-American wrestler, Dual-Sport Athlete of the Year, and Male Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Business Management. One year out of college, Coach PJ started his coaching career.

Professionally, he serves as the Director of Talent Development at Ewing Outdoor Supply and owner of Humanics Coaching, LLC.

Coach PJ resides in Tempe, AZ with his wife Mallory, son Parker (a lacrosse player!), soon-to-be daughter Ruby Lee, and dog Sunny. When he is not coaching, Coach PJ and his family are serving at their local church, and searching for good food while thinking about where they want to travel next.

While coach PJ’s systems have evolved over the years, his foundational philosophies have not, which include building servant-leaders with strong character and a relentless work ethic. His passion to develop both the sport and people are his form of paying forward everything his coaches provided him.

 

Konner Klein

VARSITY OFFENSIVE ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Konner has played and coached in Arizona over a decade. He coached 6 seasons from '12-'18 as the Offensive Coordinator for Chaparral High School and the Arizona Force Lacrosse Club. As OC, he helped lead Chaparral to the playoffs five times with one state final appearance. Coach Conner and Coach PJ coached together at Chaparral in the 2012 season.  

A New Jersey Native, he was a three-sport athlete growing up, playing Lacrosse, Football, and Baseball. Coach Konner committed to lacrosse and football while attending Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, AZ, where he was a 2x All-State All-Star and 2nd Team All State attackman.

After high school, Coach Konner continued playing lacrosse at the NCAA DII for Grand Canyon University, where Coach PJ served as an assistant coach during his 2010 season. During his time at GCU, Coach Konner served as team captain and earned All-Conference honors his senior year. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration. 

Professionally, he works in Enablement and New Hire Training for a Home Warranty company, First American. While he is not working, Coach Konner enjoys fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends. He also plays guitar in a band.

Coach Konner's favorite snack: Popcorn.

 

Isaac Smith (Alumni of the Program)

VARSITY DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Isaac started his lacrosse career at age 5 in North Carolina. After relocating to Arizona, he joined the Corona Aztec where he started as a midfielder and converted to long stick defense. His senior year he served as a team captain. Coach Isaac played both field and box club with Hot Sauce and Outlaws.

His senior year, Coach Isaac made Second Team All-State defense and was an All-star game selection. Coach Isaac played two years of college lacrosse at NCAA DIII University of Dubuque (IA). While playing for the Spartans, his team won the conference championships earning them a spot in the NCAA tournament.

In his downtime, Coach Isaac enjoys being an avid sunset enthusiast, milk consumer, golfer, and going on small road trips to Northern Arizona.

JUSTIN SIEGFRIED

CORONA JV HEAD COACH

Coach Justin relocated to the east valley in June and is entering his first season with the Aztecs as JV Head Coach. Through high school and college, he coached youth and high school lacrosse players. Coach Justin has been playing lacrosse since 2009. He played High School Lacrosse for Stillwater, MN where he was a close defenseman and captain of the team.

Coach Justin continued his lacrosse career at MCLA DII University of Minnesota Duluth and top 20 ranked team during all four of his years. His Junior and Senior seasons he was named Captain by teammates and coaches.

During his time in Duluth, he became a volunteer coach for a local program. He coached U10 up to U14 where he inspired his player to grow in knowledge, skill, and love for the game.

Coach Justin’s coaching style is rooted in the way he was taught the game, with a relentless commitment to the fundamentals of lacrosse. Coach also believes in a team approach to winning games, while building lifelong friendships.

KEIREN KELLY "COACH BEARD"

JV ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Kieran, AKA “Coach Beard”, was born in Lansdale, PA but grew up in Maryland. Coach attended Patuxent High School in Lusby, MD. His dad was a coach and both Coach Keiren and his dad helped build their local lacrosse programs.

Coach Beard continued his lacrosse career playing club lacrosse at the University of Maryland. In addition to playing, he refereed lacrosse spent four years as a lacrosse referee.

Coach Beard relocated to Phoenix, AZ in 2020 and works as a Fire Protection Engineer. Coach Beard is entering his first year of coaching high school lacrosse and his passion and coaching principles are well aligned with our Corona staff. In his free time, Coach Beard is a sports fan, who enjoys fly fishing and mountain biking.

Joe Petersen

JV DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Coach Joe started his lacrosse career in 7th grade, for the Ozaukee Wolf Pack Lacrosse Club. From his first practice he fell in love with the sport and never wanted to stop playing. He joined the Golden Eagles Lacrosse Club for summer lacrosse. When coach Joe got to high school, the sport had changed his mindset and pushed him to go to college, to continue playing the sport.

Coach Joe’s high school career was littered with obstacles and difficulties that he overcame with hard work. He played three years on the Ozaukee Wolf Pack and one year on the Lakeshore Lacrosse club, receiving two first team all conference awards for LSM, second team all conference award for offensive midfielder, and captain of the 2017 Wolf Pack. In addition he played on several club summer teams; Golden Eagles Elite, Shark Attack(which he helped create), Gulf State Elite, and Shred Thread National. Coach Joe also played all over the country in showcases including the Battle of the States showcase, where he played in the All-Star game.

Coach Joe started his College career at Dominican College in Orangeburg New York, playing NCAA DII. After a 3-11 season, and a family addition of his nephew, coach Joe transferred home to Concordia University Wisconsin to play NCAA DIII, where he played an additional four years. Coach Joe due to his hard work, was asked to play internationally by the Student Athlete World USA Lacrosse team. Where they played in portugal and won the Gold medal in the Lisboa Lacrosse Cup.

After graduating in 2023, coach Joe relocated to Arizona with his Fiance and sought out to give back to the sport that gave him so much, by coaching. Coach Joe’s goal is to not only teach the next generation of lacrosse players how to play, but also to inspire them to play at the next level.

BRANDON NEFF

DIRECTOR OF FACEOFF ACADEMY AZ
TEAM FACEOFF COACH & CONSULTANT


Coach Brandon is the Director of Faceoff Academy Arizona where he develops some of Arizona’s top and aspiring faceoff specialists, including all three 2023 Arizona Lacrosse League All-State faceoff specialists, with a fourth earning recognition as Second Team All-State Defensive Midfielder. This accomplishment highlights his unique talent for pushing athletes to achieve peak performance, setting a high standard for their position.

A double major in Chemistry and Physics, Coach Bud played lacrosse at NCAA DIII Manhatanville College (NY) where he took over 300 faceoffs. He returned to AZ, where he spent three years as a Defensive Assistant Coach with Coach Rovinelli at Desert Vista High School. Coach Bud is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Arizona State University.

Coach Brandon’s coaching philosophy emphasizes empowerment, inspiration, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. His key roles with The Faceoff Academy and Faceoff Academy Arizona reflect his commitment to shaping the next generation of faceoff specialists.

CDS Aztec Lacrosse Club seeks outstanding candidates for Head Coach for Varsity Boys Lacrosse team.


Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Coaching experience at the JV and/or Varsity Level or higher
  • Lacrosse knowledge and playing experience
  • Ability to work with high school students
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work within the League and Club guidelines and budget
  • Available for daily practices and games usually 4-6pm or 6-8pm
  • Ability and commitment to practice, cultural, competency and demonstrate respect for diversity

Desired Qualifictions:

  • 3-5 years of coaching experience at the high school level or beyond
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Capable and knowledgeable with regard to fundraising
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work with individuals and large groups
  • Ability to work with parents
  • Ability to work with local youth lacrosse organizations
  • Knowledge and capability to perform routine field maintenance and improvements a plus
